Change Your Skincare Routine, Change Your Skin!

The skin is the largest organ of the body and serves as a vital barrier against the external environment. Its appearance is often a significant aspect of our overall aesthetic, and many strive to attain healthy, glowing skin. While factors such as genetics, exercise, and diet contribute to skin health, the products we use on our skin are frequently overlooked. We’ve found that if you change your skincare routine, you can effectively improve the health and beauty of your skin.

Consistently being exposed to environmental stressors such as pollution, UV rays, and severe weather conditions can harm the skin, leading to loss of elasticity and radiance over time. If you change your skincare routine regularly, you can help the skin recover from this damage and improve overall health. Using different products, like a hydrating serum and brightening mask on alternating days, can provide the skin with beneficial ingredients and aid in adapting to various stressors. In certain cases, stronger products like organic salicylic acid may be necessary.

The key is to exfoliate, exfoliate, repair, repair, and repeat, but if the skin becomes irritated, allow it to normalize for a few days to a week before resuming.

As an experienced esthetician, I’ve seen many new clients with dry and devitalized skin who’ve used the same products for years. It’s important to note that changing skincare routine doesn’t mean continuously swapping product brands or using harsh chemicals. Rather, it involves integrating new, skin-beneficial products and utilizing them in a way that aligns with one’s skin type and concerns. (note: I retired from doing facials in October 2022, but maintain my esthetic license)

EXAMPLE OF INCORPORATING ADDITIONAL PRODUCTS INTO YOUR SKINCARE ROUTINE

This story is a fantastic example of the power of using an array of skincare products.

I met a new client, who we’ll call “Alice,” two years ago. Alice is an active 65-year-old woman who loves gardening, hiking, and spending time outdoors. Despite using high-quality skincare products, Alice’s skin was showing deeper wrinkles and appeared devitalized. She came to me for a facial and asked for recommendations for at-home skincare products. I suggested a basic routine, which she purchased and used for a few months before returning for another facial. During her visit, we discussed incorporating additional products into her routine, and this continued until Alice had a comprehensive collection of interchangeable products to address her skin concerns.

Fast forward to a few months ago when a friend of mine saw Alice at my open house and assumed she had had some “work done”. I explained that Alice had not undergone any cosmetic procedures, but instead, she had been using my products for the past year and a half. Alice’s skincare routine consists of a basic regimen, which she supplements with various exfoliators, serums, and specialized cleansers and masks. By using a diverse range of products, Alice has transformed her skin, making it look youthful, radiant, and healthy.
